The old headquarters of the Tammany Society, who controlled the New York Democratic party, the building was built in 1929 replacing an older headquarters nearby. The building was purchased by the ILGWU in 1943. It became home to the New York Film Academy, and Union Square Theatre whose parent company purchased the building from the ILGWU in 2001. The building underwent renovation in 2016 to become office space. The dome was designed after Lenape leader Tamaned standing upon a turtle.
