19th-century engraving of Georgenhaus (Hospital St. Georg) and Zur Heuwaage in Leipzig. By Richard Püttner (1842-1913) The Hospital St. Georg (later also Georgenhaus) was the oldest social institution in Leipzig. Since its foundation in 1212, it existed in various forms from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. Zur Heuwaage is the name of a residential and commercial building in the northeastern city center of Leipzig. The name goes back to the municipal large scale, the so-called hay scale, which was located here for over 300 years.
