[ 1920s Japan - Japanese Sailing Vessels ] — A sailing vessel with fishermen at Maikonohama (舞子の浜) in Suma (須磨) near Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture. On the horizon, Awajishima (淡路島) can be seen. Suma-mura (須磨村) became Suma-machi (須磨町) in 1912 (Meiji 45), and part of Kobe City in 1920 (Taisho 9). In 1931(Showa 6), it became a full-fledged ward of Kobe and the area is now called Suma-ku (須磨区). 20th century vintage postcard.
