The market was destroyed by the Great Kanto Earthquake (Kanto Daishinsai) of September 1, 1923 (Taisho 12). It re-opened in Tsukiji in 1935 (Showa 10), where it remained until October 6, 2018 (Heisei 30). 19th century vintage stereoview.
