The open grave of Mrs Florence Nightingale s Burial at East Willow church yard August 1910 Mirrorpix In 1854 Florence Nightingale went to the Crimea to nurse wounded British troops She has been given legendary status subsequentl because of hertransformation of the way nursing was organised at the time Later she donated her 50 000 pounds testimonial to the creation of The Nightingale Home for the Training of Nurses and she received the Freedom of the City of London in 1908 She died on the 13th August 1910
