It was a doubly historic occasion, since not only does it mark the 250th anniversary of the Order created by George 1 – who actually took a bath in company with his knights, obediently following the ancient precedent of chivalry that to be bold, one had to be bathed as well –but it is the first time a sovereign his installed an elder son as head of the Order Photo Shows The PRINCE of WALES preceeds the QUEEN in procession through the Nave of Westminster Abbey following today’s ceremony.
