Contributor Frequently Asked Questions

What can I sell on Alamy?

We sell stock photography, vectors, illustrations, reportage and archival imagery.  We also have a Live News Team, working directly with news outlets to sell news, sports and entertainment images taken in the last 24 hours.

Our customers love us because we have a large and encyclopaedic collection – so we want all of your images, mainstream or niche, creative or editorial in style. Everything that passes our technical criteria will be put on sale on our site – our aim is to give our clients the best possible choice. If you’re looking for ideas on what to send us, check out our Curated Image categories.

Please note we do not accept AI-generated images on Alamy.

We also have a mobile app called Stockimo which gives you the opportunity to sell your iPhone photos on Alamy. It’s a different route though, so find out more on our Stockimo page.

What are the requirements to become an Alamy Contributor?

It doesn't matter whether you're a professional photographer, a beginner or shoot micro stock, anyone (over the age of 18) can create a contributor account and upload their content to Alamy.

How much do I get paid?

We offer you a better deal than most other agencies, you could earn up to 50% on exclusive images. Click here to view our full commission models.

When do I need a model or property release?

For Editorial uses you don’t normally need a model or property release. For commercial use, if the person in your image can recognise themselves in any way, you’ll need a model release to sell for commercially. This includes crowd scenes, parts of the body or silhouettes.

If there’s recognisable property in your image you’ll need a property release in order to sell for commercial use. Property is not just limited to buildings, it’s anything identifiable that’s copyrighted/trademarked e.g. logos and branded items. This release must be signed by the property or brand owner.

If I sell my images on Alamy, can I sell them in other places too? Is Alamy exclusive?

We’re non-exclusive so that means there are no restrictions and you can submit to other stock photo sites. If you do choose to submit to another agency, just make sure they’re non-exclusive too.
