The giant pink “People Make Glasgow” city-branding slogan covers the façade of the Met Tower beside George Square in Glasgow city centre, Scotland. Photographed in bright daylight beneath a blue sky, the landmark modernist high-rise rises behind surrounding commercial buildings, city traffic, pedestrians and the Walter Scott Monument. The colourful display has become one of Glasgow’s most recognisable urban images and expresses the civic pride, character and international outlook associated with Scotland’s largest city. The slogan was originally installed on the former Glasgow College of Building and Printing tower for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. The prominent Category B listed building, subsequently known as the Met Tower, overlooks George Square from North Hanover Street and remains closely connected visually with Glasgow’s identity as a major sporting and cultural destination. The photograph has renewed editorial relevance as Glasgow hosts the Commonwealth Games again from 23 July to 2 August 2026. The eleven-day event brings approximately 3, 000 athletes from 74 Commonwealth nations and territories to compete in ten sports, including six Para sports. Competition takes place across four principal venue groups: Scotstoun Stadium, the Scottish Event Campus, Tollcross International Swimming Centre and the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and Arena. The Met Tower itself is not a competition venue for Glasgow 2026. Instead, the image provides a strong host-city illustration, linking the enduring People Make Glasgow campaign with the city’s return to the international sporting stage. It can illustrate Commonwealth Games coverage, Glasgow tourism, city branding, sporting legacy, major-event economics, Scottish civic identity, urban regeneration and the role of international sport in promoting a destination to visitors worldwide.
