The name commemorates Ivie Mackie, who served as Mayor of Manchester during the nineteenth century. Following restoration and adaptive reuse, the building reopened as a food hall containing a collection of independent operators offering meals, snacks, coffee, beer and other drinks. The communal layout creates a more informal experience than a conventional restaurant, allowing groups to select food from different vendors while remaining seated together.
