The Golan Heights is a region in the Levant. Two thirds of the area are currently administered by Israel, the remaining territory by Syria. Israeli forces captured parts of the Golan Heights after the 1967 Six Day War, and held onto it during the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Today, parts of the Golan Heights are under military control of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF).
