This poor turtle was trapped in a fishing net. Canary Islands: THESE HEARTBREAKING images show a Loggerhead sea turtle tangled in ocean netting. One image shows a loggerhead sea turtle entangled in abandoned fishing gear. This vulnerable species is under conservation and would have died, had the selfless photographer not stopped to help. Luckily, thanks to the efforts of one underwater photographer, the turtle survived. These images were taken by underwater photographer Francis Pérez (52) in Tenerife and the canary islands using a Canon 5D MKIV Camera. ?A loggerhead sea turtle swims entangled in abandoned fishing gear, off the coast of Tenerife, Canary Islands, in the northeast Atlantic Ocean, ? said Francis. ?Entrapment in nets intended for other species, and in gear left abandoned by fishing boats is the prime threat to marine turtles, followed by human consumption of meat and eggs, and coastal development affecting their habitat. ?It was incredible being so close to the turtle. It was a sensation of sadness, guilt as a human being and admiration for the wildlife.?
