The Capture of the Hessians at Trenton, December 26, 1776 by John Trumbull, oil on canvas, c.1786-1828. The painting celebrates the victory by General George Washington at the Battle of Trenton. In the center of the painting, Washington directs Major William Stephens Smith to tend to the mortally wounded Hessian Colonel Johann Gotlieb Rall.
