A similar type of house to Hendy, the Strata Florida house has however characteristically southern features, the scarfed crucks, the wickerwork fireplace and partition. The posts inserted to prop up the collapsing roof could easily be mistaken by an excavator for aisled construction. It must be remembered that until the Industrial Revolution began to raise living standards many of the poor would have lived in houses such as these.

Many of the household tasks such as drying fruits and vegetables were and are performed on these areas. The rectangular opening with projecting ladder in the right hand roof indicates that the room below is a ceremonial chamber. During ceremonies all entering and leaving is through the roof opening.Under normal circumstances the door on the ground level is used. The building housing the generator is sheathed in aluminium panels formed in vertical fluting with a porcelain enamel finish. Valeri Chakalov, a leading Arctic pilot, is in command, with Georgi Baidukov and Alexander Beliakov as co-pilots. The Moscow San Francisco flight is the longest non-stop ever attempted.
