RM2BW2469–The British rugby team which has been touring South Africa Captained by Sam Walker arrived at Southampton on the Athlone Castle on the return home. The team's tour was highly successful. Out of 24 matches played, 17 were won by the British team, seven being lost. This record is the best of any team that has visited South Africa for 35 years. RMWH8H56–En Avant (ahead) on the Congo. Eighty tons of stores were shipped out of the mouth of the Congo in June 1789. With them went the new Congo River Fleet, including the miniature side-wheeled paddleboat En Avant, 6 tons weight and 43 feet long. The vessels were expected to form a chain of communication stretching from the sea, deep into the interior highlands of Africa. RM2BTPTAJ–Speed champions of the jungle. Two beautifully spotted cheaters settled down in their winter quarters in the North Mammal House at the London Zoo. These cheaters are natives of Tanganyyika, Africa. The breed has recently gained a name in England for its wonderful speed over short distances. Tested out against dogs over the regulation tracks, cheaters reached a speed of over 40 miles an hour. 31 December 1937
RMWHA0X6–Joao II, who turned down Columbus: ' a big talker... and full of fancy and imagination'. - João II (1481-1495). The son of King Afonso, João supported the African trade and exploration. He built Fort Elmina in the heart of the Gold Coast, and supported land expeditions into the interior, including an expedition to find Prester John. Under João's guidance, Bartolomeu Dias reached the Cape of Africa in 1488. Columbus proposed his Westward voyage to João, but João refused him, sending out his own expedition, which failed. .

The Germans had seized the Treasury of the Imperial Bank of Persia and the telegraph instruments, driving out the British Colony. Upon the return of the British Colony, the British flag was re-hoisted by British Vice-Consul, Mr Meriton, who appears in the centre, supported by Persian Officials.
