The magnificent Londonderry House in Park Lane was turned into a military hospital during the war, as were two of Lord Londonderry's country seats. Lady Londonderry was formerly Edith Helen Chaplin and married Charles Vane-Tempest-Stewart, Viscount Castlereagh in 1899.
