The Duchess of York laid the fundation stone of the new Princess Elizabeth of York Hospital for Children at Banstead , Surrey , the first complete country hospital for town children ever to be built in England . The hospital is named after its 70 - years - old sister institution at Shadwell . There will be 185 beds in the new hospital which is to cost £200,000 .
