RMMX08C8–Henry III (1207-1272), was critically important to the history of Magna Carta. Following King John’s death in 1216 Henry, just a young boy aged 9, inherited the throne in the midst of civil war and on the verge of defeat to the French Prince Louis (later King Louis IX). The ‘minority government’ led by William Marshal, attempted to tempt the rebel barons back to Henry’s side by a re-issue of Magna Carta conceding the rights the rebel barons had been fighting for. On 11 February 1225 King Henry III issued what became the final and definitive version of Magna Carta.
