At night on 19 July 1846, on the road between Bell-lloc and Els Alamús, near Tossal de la Moradilla, eight armed bandits assaulted the stagecoach-courier that was coming from the Hostal de les Soques de Bellpuig, an important inn. The stagecoach was carrying the former Member of Parliament Francesc Perpinyà i Massot, who was kidnapped to demand a ransom for his liberation. The bandits started a journey on foot through the Lleida plain to take him to a place where they could keep him hidden. On 27 July 1846, Perpinyà's body was found in a well near Margalef.
