RMPB4CDC–On 18th October 1529, Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, Lord Chancellor since 1515 surrendered the Great Seal of office. His fall was a result of his failure to get King Henry VIII an annulment of his marriage to Catherine of Aragon and the rise in favour of the Dukes of Norfolk and Suffolk, and the Boleyn family. He was charged with praemunire (the offence of asserting or maintaining papal jurisdiction in England) and pleaded guilty to the charge. Released, he was re-arrested but died on 29th November 1530 at Leicester Abbey, on his way to London to face charges of treason.

RMHHW5PK–In 1546, the Bishop of Winchester and Lord Wriothesley tried to turn King Henry VIII (1491 – 1547) against Catherine Parr(1512 - 1548). An arrest warrant was drawn up for her but she saw the warrant and managed to reconcile with the King after vowing that she had only argued about religion with him to take his mind off the suffering caused by his ulcerous leg.The following day an armed guard who was unaware of the reconciliation tried to arrest her while she walked with the King.

He was educated at Queens' College, Cambridge, went to Antwerp and became a member of the group of humanist theologians that met at the White Horse Tavern. In 1536 after returning to England he was accused of heresy by the Duke of Norfolk, but escaped until 1538, when he was put on trial, and burned at the stake, on 22 November 1538 at Smithfield, London.

Formerly it was an Augustinian priory founded by King Henry II circa 1170, one of many penances he paid following the murder of Thomas Becket. Sir John Byron of Colwick in Nottinghamshire was granted Newstead Abbey by Henry VIII of England on 26 May 1540 and started its conversion into a country house following the Dissolution of the Monasteries, it is now best known as the ancestral home of Lord Byron.

He was an uncle of two of the wives of King Henry VIII of England, namely Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard, both of whom were beheaded, and he played a major role in the machinations effecting these royal marriages. After falling from favour in 1546, he was stripped of the dukedom and imprisoned in the Tower of London, avoiding execution when King Henry VIII died on 28 January 1547.

RMPB4CC8–Edward Stafford, 3rd Duke of Buckingham (1478-1521), an English nobleman on his way to the Tower of London. A peer with substantial Plantagenet blood he maintained numerous connections with the upper aristocracy. During 1520, Buckingham became suspected of potentially treasonous actions and Henry VIII authorised an investigation. He was finally summoned to Court in April 1521 and arrested and placed in the Tower. He was tried before a panel of 17 peers, being accused of listening to prophecies of the King's death and intending to kill the King. He was executed on Tower Hill on 17 May.
