Local cars underwater in July 2012 as Weymouth saw the worst floods in Dorset for over 50 years. 24 hours of solid torrential rain meant that the rivers swelled and when high tide came, the rivers burst their banks. Worst affected was the area around Radipole Lake, a nature reserve popular for bird watchers. The car park was completely underwater as was the entire length of Radipole Park Drive. Restaurants and cars were left underwater for many hours until low tide came and the waters started to subside.
