Vintage print entitled "Death of General Gordon at Khartoum" and depicting the final moments of British General Charles Gordon following the Siege of Khartoum in 1885. The siege, also known as the Battle of Khartoum, lasted from March 13 1884 to January 26 1885 and was fought in and around Khartoum in Sudan between Egyptian forces led by Gordon and a Mahdist Sudanese army led by the Mahdi Muhammad Ahmad. The Mahdists laid siege to Khartoum, defended by a garrison of 7, 000, and finally broke into the city after 10 months and killed all of the defenders. Print circa 1895 by William Finley & Co, artist Jean Leon Gerome Ferris (1863 - 1930).
