The bright Aurora Australis puts on a show over the Halley Research Station in Antarctica. This photograph was taken during winter in Antarctica on cold but clear night. The aurora is so bright it reflects off the snow, yet you can still clearly see the Southern Cross constellation which marks the centre of the Milky Way.
