Silhouette of a couple walking at sunset among the geological phenomenon of the mineral rich thermal pools at Pamukkale, Denizli, in the River Menderes valley, southwestern Turkey. In Turkish Pamukkale means cotton castle, referring to the surface of the shimmering, snow-white limestone, shaped over millennia by calcium-rich springs. In ancient Hierapolis it means Holy City. Tourism has been a major industry in the area for thousands of years, it's now a World Heritage Site, WHS. There are well-preserved Roman ruins, a museum & even swimming baths amongst the Roman ruins.
