Rickshaw puller in Kolkata. INDIA, West Bengal, Kolkata (Calcutta), July 13, 2011. Mohammed, a 56-year-old rickshaw puller from Bihar, pulls his rickshaw through the streets of Kolkata. Kolkata is the only city in India that still operates hand-pulled rickshaws. The hand rickshaw was brought to India in the early 1900s by Chinese immigrants. Most rickshaw pullers come from India's poorest state of Bihar and earn roughly 2 Euro per day. Most of that money is spent for the rent for the rickshaw and for accomodation.
