On Monday, December 17, 2012, Preston city council approved the demolition of the city centre bus station in Preston, England. The 1969 concrete building has been described as "irreplaceable" whilst some consider it to be an eyesore. The council decision came after it believed it to be cheaper to demolish the building rather than refurbish it. The council said that the cost would be £23.1 million to refurbish whilst the cost of replacing the building completely would be between £10.8 and £15.3 million. No detailed plans have been drawn up for a replacement as of yet.
