This graffiti - Money 4 War Bonuses 4 Banks Austerity 4 Us - condemns UK government economic policy. The perception of the author of this graffiti is that the relatively poor have to bear the burden of the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition government policy of making widespread budget cuts in order to reduce the UK national deficit over the course of the current parliament. The author is angry that the UK government manages to find money to fund military operations abroad (e.g. the continuing operations in Afghanistan, the NATO air strikes in Libya) and also that some bankers are paid millions of pounds in bonuses (on top of their high salaries) when their actions have contributed to the global economic crisis that began in 2007, and led to the increase in national deficit (caused by government bailouts of Northern Rock, RBS and Lloyds TSB). The author is angry that the end result is austerity for the general population, that they have to suffer unfairly because of the bank bailouts under the previous Labour administration, while policymakers and well-paid bankers are not affected.
