Siena, like many other Tuscan hill towns, was first settled in the time of the Etruscans (c. 900 BC to 400 BC) when it was inhabited by a tribe called the Saina. Siena is a city in Tuscany, Italy. It is the provincial capital of Siena province.Siena is a city in Italy, in the Toscana. It has about 54, 000 inhabitants. In beginning it was an Etruscian settlement, under Roman power. Starting with the 12th century it became an independent city with its own government. There were traditionally struggles between Siena and Florence in the middle age and the renaissance. Up from 1555 Siena belonged to the Duchy of Toscana.
