The monument was designed by Walter Seymour Allward and completed in 1936 at the site of Vimy Ridge, captured by Canadian soldiers during the Battle of Arras (1917). The names of 11, 285 Canadian soldiers, whose resting place was unknown, are inscribed into Vimy Monument.
