The Mediterranean slipper lobster, Scyllarides latus, can be found all over the Mediterranean Sea and in the eastern Atlantic. They are a popular commercial species, which drove their population to the edge of disappearance in many parts. Natural predators include several species of bony fish, e.g trigger fish. During the day they hide in caves and crevices and come out at night to hunt for smaller molluscs. Their average size is around the 30cm mark. The typical identification criterion is the flattened and enlarged second pair of antennae.
