The Sailors Home was demolished between 1974 and 1975, and the site then remained unused for over 30 years, until the construction of Liverpool One shopping centre. After restoration in the Midlands the gates were returned to Liverpool on 8 August 2011 and were re-erected under the name "The Sailors Home Gateway" in the pedestrian section of Paradise Street in Liverpool One, close to the original site of the Sailors' Home.
