Davenies is a prominent and popular school in Beaconsfield, providing an independent education for boys aged 4 - 13. The school was established in 1940 and is comprised of a main Grade II listed building (a late C19th farmhouse rebuilt in 1909) along with a collection of modern extensions and outbuildings, all set around historic formal gardens. The location for the new junior school provided challenges and opportunities due to its proximity to both the Grade II listed main building and the dell, a heavily wooded hollow used as a play area by the junior school. The building re-addressed the formal relationship to the listed main building and established a connection between the formal garden and the dell, which is re-envisaged as a key outdoor learning space linked to the sunken hall.
