The Piraeus Athena (ca. 350 BC) may be the prototype of a marble statue in the Louvre known as the Mattei Athena. It is has been attributed to the sculptor Euphranor by some scholars and to Kephisodotos by others. She wears a peplos, a Corinthian helmet, and an aegis bearing a depiction of Medusa. She probably held an owl or a Nike in her outstretched right hand and a shield in her left.
