Composer, arranger and conductor Ron Goodwin part of the Musicians' Union's protest against the BBC's axing of 5 of its orchestras, July 12, 1980. Goodwin, responsible for classic scores including Where Eagles Dare and 633 Squadron, has died, Thursday January 9, 2003. He was 77. Mr Goodwin passed away at his home in Brimpton Common, near Reading in Berkshire, last night, his agent said today. He was best known for composing the themes to a string of 1960s war films, among them Battle of Britain and Operation Crossbow. See PA Story DEATH Goodwin
