This immature herring gull has at some time in the past, got its legs entangled with discarded fishing line. The line has wrapped itself tighter and tighter around one of its legs, finally completely restricting its blood flow to such an extent that its leg has rotted and dropped off. However, we can see here the almost nightmarish scene of this gull flying around with the severed leg still attached to the end of the line and flapping around behind it. A dreadful sight and one that thoughtless anglers should have a close look at.
