China released two-year old, captive born Giant panda named Zhang Xiang – a name which aptly means hope – into the wild, November 6, 2013 Caretakers must dress as pandas because the pandas should never see a human being before it is released into the wild. As she trundles off into the mist-drenched mountains of the Li Zi Ping Forest Reserve in Sichuan Province, she takes with her the aspirations of her human caretakers and hope for her species. She is joining a male captive born panda released in the same vicinity in 2012, who has survived on this own accord and wits for over a year. They augment a population of thirteen wild pandas thought to inhabit the Reserve. (Photo by Ami Vitale)
