A canal cruise boat leaves the Nyhavn canal and a yellow harbour bus arrives at the Royal Playhouse in Copenhagen Harbour. The Royal Opera House opposite further away. Viewed from Nyhavn. The Copenhagen Opera House (inaugurated January 2005) on the waterfront in the port of Copenhagen is the national opera of Denmark and one of the most modern opera houses in the world - and the most expensive ever built. It is located on the island of Holmen in the centre of Copenhagen just opposite the castle Amalienborg. The Opera House is designed by the Danish architect Henning Larsen and is a present from Mærsk McKinney Møller. The harbour buses are often used for sightseing, as well.
