1988 Democratic Presidential candidate Michael Dukakis during a campaign stop in the heart of Silicon Valley in Palo Alto, California. Dukakis beat out Jesse Jackson, Dick Gephardt, Paul Simon, Gary Hart, Joe Biden and Al Gore for the Democratic nomination during the 1988 United States Presidential election. He campaigned against and lost the election to his Republican rival, George H.W. Bush. Dukakis was also the longest serving governor of the U.S. state of Massachusetts, serving in the post from 1975 to 1979 and again from 1983 to 1991. Dukakis is currently a professor of political science at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts as well as Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California and a visiting professor in the Department of Public Policy at the School of Public Affairs at the University of California in Los Angeles.
