Rome. Italy. Trajan's Markets (Mercati di Traiano), Forum of Trajan (Foro di Traiano). Trajan's Market was was inaugurated in 113 AD, and probably built in 100-110 AD by Apollodorus of Damascus. The visible arcades served as shops, accomodation and administrative offices. During the Middle Ages the complex was transformed by adding floor levels, still visible today, and defensive elements such as the Torre delle Milizie, the "militia tower" built in 1200.
