MEXICO - THE EARTH GODDESS, COATICUE This Aztec statue of the serpentine Earth Goddess, Caoticue, bombines skulls and duad s erpents. The photograph was made with the permission of the National Anthropological Museum, in Mexico City. It is claimed that the statue formerly stood on an omphalos slab, marking the centre of the earth.
