John Laing and Son Limited, Page Street, Mill Hill, Barnet, London, 30/03/1987. Mrs Joan Kirby, with a group of friends and colleagues, posed in the middle of cutting the cake during her retirement presentation at Mill Hill. Joan Kirby joined Laing in 1955 as a secretary for Mr Waldrum, who was in charge of personnel. She went on to work for various other individuals including John Renshaw. Joan joined Laing's Welfare Department in 1982 and retired from the Company in 1987, after 32 years of service. The typewriter beside the cake in this image was presented to Joan as a retirement gift.
