Japanese American Memorial to Patriotism During World War II, Washington, DC. The memorial reflects on the legacy of the internment camps, and concentration camps in the United States where many--forcibly displaced--Japanese Americans were held during World War II. The memorial also honors those Japanese Americans veterans who served with the US Military. At the center of the memorial war is Nina Akumu's bronze crane sculpture on Vermont granite; two cranes nestled side by side, wingtips touching, yearning to break free from the barbed wire which confines them.
