The site of Mohenjodaro lies 80 km southwest of Sukkur, in the province of Sind in present-day Pakistan. A UNESCO World Heritage Site it throws light on the Indus Valley civilisation which flourished around 3000 BCE, and was abandoned around 1700 BCE, probably due to a change of course of the river. It was rediscovered in the 1920s by archaeologists. . "Mohenjo-daro" is Sindi for "Mound of the Dead
