An early photograph of Gallows Hill, Salem, USA with a woman in witches clothing in the foreground. Gallows hill was long believed to be the site of the execution of witches during the Salem witch trial hysteria, however the Gallows Hill Project confirmed the belief that Proctor’s Ledge, a small hill located between Proctor Street and Pope Street in Salem was the actual site, in January 2016. The Salem witch trials ( hearings and prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft) took place between February 1692 and May 1693. More than two hundred people were accused. 30 were found guilty.
