The facade of the Igreja de Santo Ildefonso in Porto, Portugal, consists of blue and white azulejos between two bell towers. The cartouches “UNUS”, “TRINUS”, “DEUS” and “CARITAS” (one, threefold, God, love) carry Latin words. A statue of a bishop stands in a niche in the centre. Side panels show a kneeling figure with an apparition above on the left and a sermon before a crowd on the right. Scaffolding stands on the right. About 11,000 tiles by Jorge Colaço have covered the facade since November 1932. Construction of the church began in 1709, and it was consecrated in 1739.
