. Turning of Tides is a large outdoor mural covering the gable wall of a building at the end of High Street near Blackpool North railway station in Blackpool, Lancashire. The painted surface follows the triangular roofline, giving the composition an unusually tall, broad canvas. A muted sage-green background supports a flowing arrangement of pale birds in flight, swirling organic forms and sweeping areas of pink, rust-red, orange and white. Near the centre, winged figures overlap slender curved shapes, while a larger cluster of red and orange forms occupies the lower left of the artwork. The mural extends towards a hard-surfaced area at the base of the wall, where nearby objects and the adjacent light-coloured building provide a sense of scale. Exposed adjoining walls, roof edges and the surrounding urban setting establish it as a piece of public street art painted directly onto an existing building. The artwork was included in Blackpool's Lightpool Festival 2024 art trail. The festival programme identifies Turning of Tides as a mural from The Butterfly Effected, developed collaboratively with local young people to reflect the community's creativity and energy. A Blackpool street-art record also places the mural at the end of High Street and dates its creation to 2024. The Butterfly Effected is a Blackpool-based creative organisation associated with large-scale public artworks and community participation. The coastal title, bird imagery and expressive shapes connect the mural's visual language to movement, nature and Blackpool's seaside setting.
