More information:

. A playful 'Draw Your Best Pineapple' blackboard on Witton Street formed part of the Northwich Pina Colada Festival atmosphere in August 2026. The free town-centre event took place on 22 August and used pineapples, Caribbean-inspired entertainment, music, street performance, cocktails and alcohol-free mocktails to create a deliberately tropical identity in Cheshire. The unlikely theme has become a useful piece of place marketing, encouraging visitors to move between local pubs, bars, cafes and shops rather than attending a fenced ticketed venue. Small details such as public chalkboards, knitted decorations and pineapple displays turn the whole centre into part of the event. This image captures the community and participatory side of festivals: visitors are invited to add drawings rather than simply consume entertainment. It also illustrates how Business Improvement Districts, councils and local traders increasingly use quirky themed events to generate footfall, social-media content and repeat visits at a time when traditional shopping alone is often insufficient to sustain town centres. The image can be read as part of a broader visual history of the North West and the changing functions of its town centres and suburbs.
