Conor Pass, Dingle Peninsula, County Kerry, IrelandMore information:
Tourists stop at the Conor Pass viewpoint to take in a sweeping panorama of the mountainous interior of the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry, southwest Ireland. The scene looks across a steep green glaciated valley towards small corrie lakes and rounded mountain slopes, with low grey cloud hanging over the higher ground and giving the landscape a dramatic, changeable Atlantic character. Visitors stand beside the roadside viewing area and stone wall, while interpretation panels provide information about the surrounding scenery. Conor Pass, known in Irish as An Chonair, lies on the R560 and forms a spectacular mountain crossing between Dingle, or Daingean Uí Chúis, on the southern side of the peninsula and settlements and coastline to the north. The route climbs through rugged upland scenery shaped by glaciation and is one of the best-known scenic drives in County Kerry. The summit stopping area is a popular place for motorists, touring visitors and photographers to pause and look across the remote landscape. Official Irish tourism information highlights the pass for its glaciated mountain scenery, corrie lakes and wide-ranging views, and identifies it as part of the Wild Atlantic Way visitor experience. The narrow mountain road and exposed terrain also demonstrate the contrast between Ireland's busy tourism routes and the relatively wild, sparsely developed countryside of the peninsula. In this summer view, lush green vegetation covers the valley floor and hillsides while mist and cloud obscure parts of the distant ridges. The parked cars, tourists and information boards show the pass functioning as a roadside attraction and photographic viewpoint, providing travellers with an accessible place to appreciate the natural landscape of West Kerry during a driving holiday or road trip through one of Ireland's most celebrated visitor regions
