Colourful Central BID hanging flower display in Birmingham city centre, West Midlands, England, UK. The seasonal planting adds bright colour and greenery to the central shopping and commercial district, with the Central BID branding visible above the flowers. Business Improvement District organisations are funded by local businesses within defined areas and commonly support initiatives such as environmental improvements, cleaning, security, events, marketing, visitor information and measures intended to increase footfall and improve the attractiveness of town and city centres. Hanging baskets and other floral displays are a familiar feature of British urban public-realm programmes during spring and summer, softening heavily built-up streets and contributing to a more welcoming pedestrian environment. This Birmingham photograph is suitable for editorial use relating to urban greening, horticulture, city-centre management, Business Improvement Districts, retail areas, tourism, public-realm investment, civic pride and seasonal planting. It also provides a visual example of relatively small-scale environmental improvements used to support the appearance and identity of commercial districts at a time when city centres continue to compete for shoppers, workers, residents, visitors and leisure spending.
