Fettlers construction site replacing the former Galleries Shopping Centre in Wigan, Greater Manchester, UK.

Fettlers construction site replacing the former Galleries Shopping Centre in Wigan, Greater Manchester, UK. Concrete cores, steelwork, cranes, temporary barriers and active building works dominate the redevelopment site in the town centre. The image documents a major phase of physical change as older enclosed retail space is replaced by a new mixed-use development. It is suitable for editorial coverage of Fettlers, Wigan regeneration, construction, redevelopment, town-centre renewal, former shopping centres, urban planning, cranes, building sites, retail change and Greater Manchester investment. The photograph provides a valuable contemporary record of the transition from traditional shopping-centre development towards new town-centre uses and can illustrate stories about regeneration funding, construction progress, changing retail patterns, housing and leisure development, local economic renewal and the reshaping of British town centres.
