The Mevlana Museum (Mevlânâ Müzesi) in Konya's Karatay district, Turkey, houses a traditional dervish room with a barred window. A young man sits behind it, reciting verses from the Koran that carry across the museum courtyard via loudspeaker. The museum is the mausoleum of the Sufi mystic Rumi (Jalāl ad-Dīn ar-Rūmī, 1207–1273), with an adjoining mosque and former dervish lodge; the turquoise dome built over his grave in 1274 is considered a symbol of Konya.
